DodsPeople is produced by Dods which has provided contact and biographical information about the Houses of Parliament and the Civil Service in the UK since 1832, and across the EU since 2000 and is renowned for the quality, accuracy and relevance of the political information it provides. How do I navigate the site?

Homepage
The new dodspeople.eu homepage has been simplified to ensure you can navigate the information you require as quickly as possible.

Quick search
The new quick search will allow you to type in a free text word be that a name, job title or organisation name. This will search and categorise your results in a meaningful results screen to help you navigate to the appropriate place.

Top navigation
We have divided the menu into easily to access groupings.

People
Key people groups have been created to enable you to access a comprehensive list and apply a number of filters and then interact with the individuals chosen.

Institutions
The institutions section allows you to navigate through the hierarchy of the key structures within each area. Simply chose your starting point, and navigate to the institution, organisation or country you need.

Public Affairs
This new section allows you to perform a search for people, roles, organisations and policy areas for public affairs organisations across Brussels. This information is available online for the first time and in compiled and updated for the ever-present The European Public Affairs directory. You can apply filters and save groups of individuals for future interaction, find specific public affairs organisations and who to contact, or search by policy area to discover which organisations are active in particular areas.

MyPeople
This section allows you to review the interaction you have had with individuals and groups of individuals and will allow you to communicate directly from within the system.

How do I find an MEP

Option 1
Type the full name or part of the named individual into the quick search box. The more accurate your search entry, the better your results will be. All named contacts will appear in the PEOPLE section of the search results screen. For a complete list of people who have matched your search, select the Click here to see all option which will provide you with a people listing page detailing your results. You can apply filters to these results, click here for more information.

Option 2
From the top navigation bar, select People > MEPs. This will provide you with a complete listing of all MEPs, allowing you to refine your search via a number of variables. Click here for more information. Once you have found the MEP you require, simply click the named link which will direct you to the biography of the MEP.

How do I use the filter options?

The filter system allows you to refine your list of people on the screen.

How do I select all female German MEPs?
    Each filter you add will automatically refresh the people list in accordance with the filter selected.
    Gender - Select Female. This will refresh the list to only Female contacts only.
    Country – Select Germany.

How to select all United Kingdom and German MEPs
    In the country option, select chose more…
    This provides a list of all countries.
    Select United Kingdom and Germany. Select and continue.
    This will refine the list on the page to all German and United Kingdom MEPs.

How do I navigate a biography

Once you have found the MEP you need (see Find an MEP) you will have a number of options. The screen is split into several areas to provide you with the information you require quickly.

Header
This information is always visible wherever you are on the biography page.
  -  Photo of the MEP
  -  Primary role title detailing their primary role in Parliament
  -  European Party Group name to whom the MEP is affiliated
  -  Country of Origin flag
  -  National Party name
  -  Primary contact address, tel, fax and email.

Information Tabs
This breaks down the information on each Member into categories, including:

Political – comprehensive information on their political history, detailing their current posts, committees, delegations and assemblies they currently or have previously sat on. Details of their career as an MEP, and information on their previous national political career if applicable. On the right hand side of the page, there is a quick reference section that provides the individuals Political interests.

Personal – This section provides you with the personal background information on the individuals, including date of birth, education, marital status and children, their non-political career. Again, the right hand column picks out their recreations and languages for quick reference information.

Contact – Further to the information provided in the header, the contact tab provides all addresses and contact details for the individual, including the Brussels, Strasbourg and MEP office addresses.

Staff – To ensure you can contact the right individual, this section provides the staff that work for the individual you are viewing.

MyPeople – The final tab provides a breakdown of the interaction you as a user has had with the individual. For more information on MyPeople please click here.

How do I navigate an institution

The institutions section allows you to quickly and effectively navigate through each EU institution from the top down to the required level.

Simply select the top level institution required, and it the service will either provide you with the information required, or a series of additional links, each allowing you to navigate with greater detail. If at any point you have either become lost or taken a wrong turn, simply use the breadcrumb tool in the top header available on each page. You can either navigate to the previous page, the first page where you commenced your search, or any stage in between.

Each institution page has been designed to provide you with the most important information, from an overview of the responsibilities, the key contacts, staff and contact details.

How do I find public affairs professional

Dods has included for the first time the information that is currently available in Dods most recent acquisition, The European Public Affairs Directory. This includes over 3,000 organisations and 6,000 public affairs professionals.

What is My People?

My People is the new functionality that allows you to interact with contacts in the database.

What is My Watchlist

The watchlist allows you to keep a selection of your most frequently viewed contacts.

It saves you time navigating through the site to the biography of choice. Simply click the named contact and link directly to their biography page.

How do I add someone to My Watchlist

When you are on a biography page, simply click the 'Add to My Watchlist' option in the MyPeople menu on the top right of the screen. Select add and the system will confirm that that has been actioned.

How do I remove someone from My Watchlist

You have two options. Either go to the MyPeople homepage and select the Watchlist tab. Scroll to find the individual to be removed and select the X to remove. Confirm the removal and the individual will no longer appear. Alternatively, visit the biography of the contact and select the MyPeople option in the person navigation. Click watchlist. This indicates whether this individual is on your watchlist, to remove, simply select remove.

What are Notes?

This allows you to add a note to an individual or group of individuals or your choice. You can categories these by default headings or add your own. You can then reference these notes from the My People section on the navigation bar or within an individuals’ biography.

How do I add a Note to an individual?

To add a note to an individual from within a biography, simply select the Add Note option from MyPeople. Chose the type of note, and add the text. Once saved, this will be recorded against the individuals MyPeople biography for future reference.

How do I add a Note to a group of individuals

If you have filtered a people list you can add a note to all your contacts on the screen. Simply select the individuals or select all and click the Add Note in the MyPeople section. Select the Note type and add the text. Once saved, this will be recorded against the My People biography section for future reference.

What are Groups

If you wish to group a number of individuals once you have performed a filter search that you wish to reference at a future occasion, you can select and reference again in the My People section on the navigation bar or within an individuals’ biography.

Groups Create a new Group

To create a new group, simply add the name of the group in the new group field, and click Create new Group button. This will add the named group to the Groups box. Once you have created a group you can view the contacts selected within by selecting the Group. The Contacts box below it will be populated with your contacts.

Add contacts to my Group

To add contacts to your group you must either create a filtered list and select Add to Group under the MyPeople option. This will ask you which group to add this to and confirm that it has been saved. Alternatively, you can add an individual from their biography page by repeating the same procedure.

Remove contacts from my group

To remove a contact, simply select the X and confirm the removal of the individual.

What can I do with my Group of contacts?

Once you have created your group, you can now perform two actions:

Email

The system allows you to email directly from your account to a preselected group of individuals. This allows you to email them directly, personalising each email with salutation. Each email sent will keep a permanent log against each individual for future reference. You can reference these emails from the My People section on the navigation bar or within an individuals’ biography.

Export

The system allows you to export contacts directly from your account based on a preselected group of individuals. This allows you to export contact information for use within your mail-merge applications. Each export is recorded against each individual and keeps a permanent log against each biography for future reference. You can reference your exports from the My People section on the navigation bar or within an individuals’ biography.
